Salesforce layoffs tracker: reported cuts, 2023 to 2026
Salesforce layoffs do not form one clean total. The ForceFolks tracker separates companywide reports, local WARN notices and support-team changes. August 2026 reports list 133 roles with an October 5 effective date. Salesforce reported 83,334 employees on January 31, 2026. Those figures describe different scopes and dates.
Salesforce layoffs timeline: keep each measure separate
The timeline records selected announcements and reports, not a complete count of every job loss. ForceFolks labels the scope so local notices do not become global totals.
| Period | Reported measure | Scope and source |
|---|---|---|
| January 2023 | Approximately 10% of the workforce | companywide announcement. FY2023 Form 10-K Entrepreneur, February 4, 2025 |
| January 2024 | About 700 roles | companywide media report. Entrepreneur, February 4, 2025 |
| July 2024 | About 300 roles | companywide media report. Entrepreneur, February 4, 2025 |
| February 2025 | More than 1,000 roles | companywide media report. Entrepreneur, February 4, 2025 |
| Reported September 2025 | About 9,000 to about 5,000 staff | support-team headcount. TechRepublic, September 2, 2025 CIO, February 10, 2026 |
| Early 2026, reported in February | Close to 1,000 roles | cross-team media report. CIO, February 10, 2026 |
| June 2026 | 86 positions in California | California WARN report. Quartz, July 3, 2026 San Francisco Chronicle, August 6, 2026 |
| August 2026 | 74 California and 59 Washington positions | California and Washington WARN reports. San Francisco Chronicle, August 6, 2026 GeekWire, August 6, 2026 The Next Web, August 7, 2026 |
These rows cannot be added into one total. Announcements can overlap with later local notices, and a team reduction can include transfers or unfilled vacancies.
What do the 2026 Salesforce layoff reports show?
The reports describe different scopes. Early-year coverage gives an approximate cross-team count. Later local notices identify specific locations and scheduled dates.
The August 7 report from The Next Web combines 74 California positions and 59 Washington positions. Its 133 figure covers those two notices only.
October 5, 2026 was their stated effective date. Passing that date does not prove that every notified separation occurred exactly as planned.
ForceFolks does not publish an annual layoff total from these mixed reports. This tracker is a dated research snapshot, not a live news alert service.
How many employees does Salesforce have?
Salesforce reported 83,334 employees on January 31, 2026. This is an annual snapshot, not its current workforce after every later hiring or staffing change.

| Snapshot date | Employees | Primary source |
|---|---|---|
| January 31, 2023 | 79,390 | FY2023 Form 10-K |
| January 31, 2024 | 72,682 | FY2026 Stakeholder Impact Report, page 48 |
| January 31, 2025 | 76,453 | FY2026 Stakeholder Impact Report, page 48 |
| January 31, 2026 | 83,334 | FY2026 Form 10-K |
The 2023 filing says its snapshot still included employees affected by the January restructuring plan. Subtracting announced cuts from that number would misstate the later workforce.
Hiring, acquisitions, departures and internal moves can change headcount. A company can grow overall while cutting particular teams.
Which teams appear in the reviewed reports?
CIO names marketing, product management, data analytics and Agentforce in its February 10, 2026 report.
GeekWire's August 6 report names engineering, product management and technical support among the Washington roles.
Those descriptions come from the reports linked in the timeline. A department name does not establish the status of every role in that team.
Did AI cause the Salesforce layoffs?
No single explanation applies to every reported cut. Executive statements about AI-driven support changes do not establish the cause of every later job loss.
In 2025, Marc Benioff described a support-team change from about 9,000 to about 5,000 staff. TechRepublic's September 2025 coverage reports that statement.
A Salesforce spokesperson later described staff redeployment and not replacing departing support engineers in CIO's February 2026 reporting. The team-size change does not establish 4,000 dismissals.
The Next Web reports that the August notices did not identify AI as the cause. Keep the announced reason, media interpretation and measured outcome separate.
For product context, read how Salesforce Agentforce works. Product capability alone does not prove a workforce outcome.
What do the local WARN observations cover?
Each WARN observation concerns a listed location and scheduled change. It is not a worldwide count or proof that every announced separation has completed.
| Reported period | Location | Positions | Date and meaning | Report |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| June 2026 | California | 86 | August 7, 2026. Reported payroll end date. | Quartz, July 3, 2026 |
| August 2026 | San Francisco, California | 74 | October 5, 2026. Scheduled effective date. | San Francisco Chronicle, August 6, 2026 |
| August 2026 | Seattle and Bellevue, Washington | 59 | October 5, 2026. Scheduled effective date. | GeekWire, August 6, 2026 |

What must Salesforce customers check?
Check your own support and delivery arrangements instead of inferring service quality from a headcount headline. A staffing report does not amend your contract.
- Confirm your current account and support contacts.
- Record escalation paths for incidents that affect customers or revenue.
- Compare actual case response times with your agreed service terms.
- List upcoming releases, integrations and internal owners.
- Keep runbooks, deployment steps and test evidence accessible to your team.
- Address a measured skills or support gap with a defined scope.
ForceFolks Salesforce managed services can support a customer's own org and release process. They do not replace Salesforce's product support obligations.
Start with a Salesforce org health check if the real concern is permissions, failed automation, integrations or release risk.
Is Salesforce still hiring after the layoffs?
Check Salesforce's current careers listings for open roles. These workforce reports do not show which vacancies remain open today.
What does this mean for hiring Salesforce specialists?
Salesforce's corporate job cuts do not measure demand for every admin, developer or architect. Customers still need to assess their own workload and skills.
Use the Salesforce salary guide by role for employee-pay research. Separate that budget from the price of managed delivery.
For a temporary gap, compare ForceFolks Salesforce staff augmentation with permanent hiring. Check role experience, working hours, access controls and handover terms.
A permanent employee may fit long-term product ownership. A short specialist engagement may fit a migration, integration or time-limited release backlog.
How is this tracker compiled?
ForceFolks records the source, time period and measurement type for each observation. Company filings support annual headcount. Named reports support the layoff and local-notice rows.
- Keep reported estimates approximate. Do not turn "more than" or "under" into an exact count.
- Separate publication dates, notice dates and scheduled effective dates.
- Do not count repeated coverage of one report as independent confirmation.
- Do not add local notices to a broader announcement without proof that the groups are distinct.
- Exclude rumors, unverified future rounds and unsupported reasons for a cut.
- Do not calculate a live workforce by subtracting reports from annual headcount.
This selected ledger is not exhaustive. It may omit a smaller local notice or a change that the reviewed sources do not establish.
The check date applies to this edition. ForceFolks does not promise continuous monitoring or an update within a fixed number of hours.

Salesforce layoffs: common questions
How many people has Salesforce laid off in 2026?
The ForceFolks tracker does not calculate a 2026 total. Reports combine approximate cross-team estimates with local notices that may overlap. A defensible total needs a consistent scope and proof that the affected groups are distinct.
What is the latest dated change in this tracker?
October 5 was the stated effective date for notices covering 74 California positions and 59 Washington positions. The combined 133 is a local-notice count, not Salesforce's worldwide annual total.
Did Salesforce dismiss 4,000 support employees?
The reported support-team reduction does not establish 4,000 dismissals. Salesforce also described moving staff and not replacing departing engineers. ForceFolks keeps this team-size change separate from layoff estimates.
How many employees did Salesforce report in January 2026?
Salesforce's annual filing reports 83,334 employees on January 31, 2026. That dated snapshot does not include every later hire, departure or organizational change.
Can a company grow while making layoffs?
Yes. Hiring and acquisitions can increase total headcount while individual teams shrink. Annual workforce counts and reports of job cuts measure different things.
Do the layoff reports prove Salesforce support is worse?
No. Check your own incident response, escalation contacts and contractual service terms. A staffing headline does not measure the quality of your support experience.
Does this tracker predict further Salesforce job cuts?
No. It records selected source-linked observations. It does not predict further cuts or claim that no unreviewed announcement exists.
